About Abka Fitz-Henley

Abka Fitz-Henley is a Government Senator currently serving in the upper house of Jamaica’s Parliament.

Fitz-Henley is a multiple award-winning former media practitioner who was born on January 17, 1989 in Jamaica. Prior to his retirement from broadcast media, Fitz-Henley was in the mass communication field for over a decade, copping over 15 awards in the process.

In January 2022 , Fitz-Henley walked away from broadcast media where he had hosted a popular current affairs morning show on Nationwide News Network and became known as ‘The Breaking News Boss’, bringing the curtains down on a thirteen year media career which began when he was 20 years old.

During his 1st year in media, Fitz-Henley was recognized with the Young Journalist of the year award from The Press Association of Jamaica (PAJ) and in 2016 went on to cop one of the country’s highest recognized journalism prizes, the PAJ National Journalist of the Year Award.

He’s the final recipient of the the prestigious corporate Jamaica Broilers Fairplay 1st place Award for investigative journalism and is the recipient of the Caribbean Blog Award for coverage of the infamous Kartel murder trial.

Fitz-Henley is also the recipient of the PM Youth Award for Excellence and for several years won the Journalist of the Year award at NNN. Over the years, he has appeared as a guest on the BBC World Service and BBC London.

Fitz-Henley has served as Co-Host of the current affairs programme Nationwide: This Morning which aired on week days on Nationwide News Network (NNN) between 6:00am and 8:25am. He also served at NNN as National Correspondent and supervisor of the Online team.

Over the years, he has served as Senior Journalist, Parliamentary Correspondent and News and Production Editor. His primary areas of focus were Court, Crime and Parliamentary proceedings.

Fitz-Henley was recently recognized in the regional celebrity magazine publication Panache as “The Breaking News Boss” which tracked his career and the initial years when he came to public attention after passing nine CXC’s at 12 years old.

Fitz-Henley was born to a family known for giving distinguished service to Jamaica spanning several decades and in several fields including education, medicine, law and media.
